Plant Name - Araliya flower
The temple tree is a common and easily recognizable tree in Sri Lanka with knotted branches, long leaves and distinctive flowers. The fragrant flowers usually appear in clusters at the ends of branches and have five overlapping, waxy petals. There are many varieties, from deep crimson to orange to white, and the center of the flower is usually a different color than the others - for example, white flowers usually have a yellow center. Some think that the women depicted in the famous murals of the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya are holding flowers very similar to the temple, so the tree must have been introduced to the country 1,500 years ago.
In Sri Lanka, this flower has both religious and ceremonial significance. It is a favorite offering in Buddhist temples, and is often grown in temple precincts, thus earning it the name 'temple flower'.
